1. Document first, demo later
Photograph the room, note what’s currently there, and don’t start demolition before a plan is actually in place.
2. Evaluate the house and site
Cabinetry, appliance clearances, ventilation, plumbing, electrical capacity, and any structural changes have to be planned together, since fixing one in isolation usually just moves the problem.
3. Write the scope down
Preparation, protection, materials, access, permits, testing, cleanup, and change-order pricing should all be documented up front.
4. Compare more than the bottom line
Verify credentials, then look at what each proposal actually covers instead of just the total price.
5. Confirm real closeout
Testing, cleanup, paperwork, warranty terms, and any leftover maintenance responsibilities should be confirmed before the job is done.
